The Overwhelmingly Obvious

It all started when I was reading the back of our cottage cheese carton...I noticed an allergy warning on it and thought to myself, "That's a good idea to let people know what might be in the product that could cause potential problems. " For instance, who knew that spaghetti sauce contained soybeans and was manufactured in a facility that processes milk?
Anyways, what was this mysterious potential allergen?
Milk.
OK, seems a bit obvious to me that a cheese product would contain milk; but it got me thinking...what other seemingly obvious allergy warnings are listed on food products?

So far I have also been warned that
peanut butter contains peanuts.
Good to know...

That's almost like having to let a person know that coffee from McDonald's is hot or something...

So, keep your eyes open, and let me know what obvious warnings you see around.

Siblings

Elisha likes to play with Madelyn while she sits in her bouncy seat.
His legs fit right under it which allows him to get up close and
personal. This arrangement can be a good thing
(when he talks to her and makes her laugh)
or not so good (when he bounces her too hard
or pushes up on the bottom of her seat, "It's a roller coaster!")

A Trip to the Dentist

Elisha had his first trip to the dentist yesterday. Our dentist has "Kid Days" a few times a year with a theme for the day. Yesterday's theme was racing, so Elisha got a bag with a little race car and other race-themed prizes, along with the expected tootbrush and toothpaste. They also had cool sunglasses for the kids to wear while they shined the bright light in their mouth. It was a good experience overall.

Elisha even left his pacifier with the dentist since he is three and it is probably not too good for his teeth anymore. All was well until naptime and bedtime...I think he was very attached and is going through withdrawal. Oh well, this, too will pass.

American I-Don't-Believe-It!

I was at a meeting today when I heard the news...Chris was voted off of American Idol! I thought I must have heard incorrectly; but alas, it was no mistake: Chris is gone.
Not that we follow the show religiously or anything. But the few times we have watched, Jim and I both agreed that Chris was pretty amazing. He was the only contestant who already had the sound, look, and stage presence of a professional (in my opinion.)
I saw the recap of the Elvis songs Tuesday night and was surprised that Katherine wasn't voted off. Maybe people figured Chris was good enough to get a recording contract without winning...or that he was obviously staying, so they didn't have to worry about their vote affecting him.
Whatever the reason, I for one am surprised and sorry to see him go.

The Bane of Batteries

Yes, it's another lame post about why I haven't had more posts. Let me just say that due to a battery shortage in out household, we have been unable to take digital pictures or download pictures already taken from our digital camera. So, I have had to get creative... like using old pictures that we had from weeks ago (see post below) or using pictures from the internet (see this post and cow picture).

A tip for anyone trying to swap battteries between electrical devices: digital cameras must be female. They are high-maintenance (I feel like I can say this based on firsthand experience since we now have a baby girl in the house) and must have new or alomost new batteries if they are to work properly (or at all in our case.)

I have tried batteried from remote control cars, walkie talkies and other small technical toys, but to no avail. The toy will function with the batteries, but as soon as I put them in our camera, they have no power. Go figure.
So, as soon as I get over purchasing batteries for full price at Wal-mart (instead of on sale and on coupon like I have in the past), we will be back in the blogging business. Until then, I guess I'll improvise.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

The women's ministry of College Church sponsored a night
where kids could come and ploant a garden.
Elisha had a great time planting corn, peas, onions, and potatoes.
Here is a picture of him with his plants early on:

And here is Elisha with his "garden" a few weeks later.
We finally had to take it out to my parent's house so that Grandpa
could replant it in his garden (or at least a larger pot.)
It was even bigger than this: potato vines were overtaking our kitchen...
not to mention the fruit flies that loved the soil (gross!)

We'll let you know if we eventually enjoy soup or
anything else edible from our son's gardening efforts...

My Excuse

My excuse for lack of posts...mastitis. Yes, just like cows get.
Similar to the flu (aches, chills, fever, nausea, fatigue) but not the flu.
My doctor prescribed an antibiotic with unpleasant side effects
(listed as "extreme fatigue" - not being able to get up off of the couch).
So now I am completing a week on a new medicine, and
I am just thankful to be getting back to "normal."
