I'm not sure I should be excited that I could pass 8th grade math; but, I must confess, that I was proud (surprised, actually) that I got a perfect score. My brain just doesn't get that much exercise in algebra these days...you can try it for yourself if you click on the link.

I got 7 out of 10 and I used the calculator on two of them. Go figure.
That stressed me out and reminded me about how much I HATED math in 8th grade!!!
I also got a ten - - - - but, I have two comments about the ten questions on my little test. (I wonder if they are the same each time?)
First of all - - - they used a symbol in one that is NOT an 8th grade symbol. I THINK they were trying to use a superscript "2" to mean squared, but they had a little carrot between the quantity to be squared and the "2" - - - - I never saw THAT in 8th grade math!!!
Also, I did have too use google to REMIND myself of the actual definitions of whole number, integer, prime number, and irrational number. So, I guess maybe I cheated a little tiny bit.
:-)
I got 8 out of 10 right, which I find completly amazing! I hate math!
Keetha - That's one of the problems I did on the calculator - John's graphing calculator. It has all of those symbols on it, and I keyed them in exactly as they were in the problem. I got that one right, but I don't know what some of the symbols are for.
OK I didn't actually take the test because I'm licensed to teach 8th grade math, but I had to comment. Someone should get a copy of a sample test for the Indiana High School Proficiency Exam - the test that students have to pass (I mean, meet the standards) before they graduate. Most of the high school teachers when I was teaching couldn't do the math portion. It has geometry as well as algebra :)
John Derby got 10 of 10 correct. And he even knew what all those funny symbols meant.
